Ingredients
  

  • 1.5 pounds chicken drumsticks about 6-8 drumsticks
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika regular or smoked
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce your favorite variety
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar for extra caramelization
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper for heat

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels. This helps seasonings stick better and promotes crisper skin.
  3. In a large bowl, toss the drumsticks with olive oil until lightly coated.
  4. Mix the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Sprinkle this seasoning mixture over the drumsticks, turning to coat all sides.
  5. Arrange the seasoned drumsticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each piece for even cooking.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  7. Remove the drumsticks from the oven and brush generously with barbecue sauce on all sides.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the sauce begins to caramelize.
  9. For extra sticky, glazed drumsticks, brush with another layer of barbecue sauce during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
  10. Allow the drumsticks to rest for 5 minutes before serving to help retain juices.
