Ingredients
Method
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup. If you have one, place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet.
- Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels. This helps the seasonings stick and promotes crispy skin.
- In a small bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create your spice rub.
- Coat the drumsticks evenly with the spice mixture, rubbing it into the meat to ensure full coverage.
- Arrange the seasoned drumsticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each piece for even cooking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- While the drumsticks are baking, prepare your BBQ sauce. If using store-bought sauce, you can enhance it by mixing in the honey and apple cider vinegar for added depth of flavor.
- After the initial 25 minutes of baking, remove the drumsticks from the oven and brush generously with the BBQ sauce, coating all sides.
- Return the drumsticks to the oven and bake for an additional 7-10 minutes.
- Apply a second coat of BBQ sauce and continue baking for 5-7 more minutes, until the sauce is caramelized and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
- For an extra sticky finish, you can brush on one final layer of sauce just before serving.
- Allow the drumsticks to rest for 5 minutes before serving to let the juices redistribute throughout the meat.
