Ingredients

  • 1 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar
  • ¼ cup sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons gochujang Korean chili paste
  • 2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
  • 3 green onions finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Method

  1. Gather all ingredients and measure them into separate bowls for easy assembly.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Stir over medium heat until the sugar is completely dissolved, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the gochujang paste, ginger, and garlic to the mixture. Whisk until well incorporated.
  4. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. The sauce should begin to thicken slightly.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the sesame seeds, green onions, honey, and black pepper.
  6. Allow the sauce to cool completely. The flavors will continue to develop as it cools.
  7. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before using for best results.
