Ingredients
  

  • 4 bone-in skin-on chicken breasts
  • 1 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce plus extra for basting
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon honey for extra sweetness
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper for heat

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking dish or sheet pan with aluminum foil for easier cleanup.
  2. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. This helps the seasoning stick better and promotes crispier skin.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Rub this seasoning mixture all over the chicken breasts, making sure to get under the skin for maximum flavor.
  5. Place the chicken breasts skin-side up in your prepared baking dish, leaving a little space between each piece.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes to start cooking the chicken through.
  7. Remove from the oven and generously brush BBQ sauce over each chicken breast. If using honey, mix it with the BBQ sauce before brushing.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
  9. Brush another layer of BBQ sauce on the chicken and bake for 10 more minutes.
  10. Check that the chicken has reached an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) using a meat thermometer. If needed, bake for a few more minutes.
  11. For a more caramelized finish, switch the oven to broil for the last 2-3 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  12. Remove from the oven and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute.
