Ingredients

  • 4 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 3-5 fresh habanero peppers stems removed and roughly chopped
  • 1 medium onion diced
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned salt
  • 2 cups brown sugar packed
  • 2 cups ketchup

Method

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring the apple cider vinegar to a boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the chopped habanero peppers, diced onion, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, cayenne pepper, yellow mustard, white pepper, and seasoned salt to the boiling vinegar.
  3. Return the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low.
  4. Stir in the brown sugar until completely dissolved.
  5. Add the ketchup and mix thoroughly to combine all ingredients.
  6. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for approximately 1 hour, stirring occasionally. The sauce will thicken as it reduces.
  7. For a smoother sauce, allow the mixture to cool slightly and then carefully transfer to a blender or food processor to puree (optional).
  8. Allow the sauce to cool completely before transferring to glass jars or bottles for storage.
