Ingredients
Method
- Preheat your outdoor grill for medium-high heat (around 375-400°F) and lightly oil the grate to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the chicken by patting it dry with paper towels. Brush with olive oil and season lightly with salt and pepper.
- In a small saucepan, combine ketchup, honey, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, and black pepper.
- Bring the sauce mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Place the chicken on the preheated grill, skin side down first if using skin-on pieces. Grill for about 5-7 minutes per side.
- Once the chicken has cooked for about 15 minutes total, begin brushing with the BBQ sauce. Apply the sauce generously, turning and basting every few minutes.
- Continue grilling until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F and the sauce has caramelized, about 5-10 more minutes. Be careful not to burn the sauce - if needed, move chicken to a cooler part of the grill.
- Remove from grill and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving. This allows the juices to redistribute and the flavors to settle.
- Serve with additional warm BBQ sauce on the side for dipping.
