Ingredients
  

  • 4 whole skin-on bone-in chicken breasts
  • 1 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar optional, for extra caramelization
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika smoked paprika works beautifully
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easier cleanup.
  2. In a small bowl, mix garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper to create a dry rub.
  3. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. This helps the seasonings stick better and promotes browning.
  4. Brush chicken breasts with olive oil on all sides.
  5. Apply the dry rub evenly over all sides of the chicken breasts, gently pressing to adhere.
  6. Place the seasoned chicken breasts skin-side up on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they're not touching.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven and brush each chicken breast generously with BBQ sauce. If using the brown sugar option, mix it with the BBQ sauce before applying.
  9. Return to oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the sauce has caramelized.
  10. For an extra sticky, caramelized finish, brush with additional BBQ sauce during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
  11. Allow chicken to rest for 5 minutes before serving to help retain juices.
