Ingredients
  

  • 4 whole skin-on bone-in chicken breasts
  • 1 cup of your favorite barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for heat

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking dish with aluminum foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using).
  3. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels to ensure the seasonings adhere properly and the skin crisps up.
  4. Drizzle the olive oil over the chicken breasts and rub to coat evenly.
  5. Sprinkle the spice mixture over both sides of the chicken, rubbing it in to ensure even coverage.
  6. Place the chicken breasts in the prepared baking dish, skin side up, leaving some space between each piece.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  8. Remove from oven and brush each chicken breast generously with barbecue sauce, making sure to coat all sides.
  9. Sprinkle the brown sugar over the barbecue sauce for added caramelization.
  10. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the sauce has thickened and caramelized slightly.
  11. For an extra burst of flavor, brush on another thin layer of barbecue sauce during the last 5 minutes of cooking.
  12. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute.
