Ingredients

  • 1 3 pound boneless chuck roast
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 ½ cups your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce optional
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar optional

Method

  1. Trim any excess fat from the chuck roast (leaving some fat is good for flavor).
  2. Mix the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.
  3. Rub the seasoning mixture all over the beef roast, making sure to coat all sides.
  4. Place the seasoned roast in the slow cooker.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce (if using), and brown sugar (if using).
  6. Pour the sauce mixture over the roast, ensuring it's well coated.
  7. Cover and cook on LOW for 7-8 hours or on HIGH for 4-5 hours, until the meat is fork-tender and easily shreds.
  8. About 30 minutes before serving, shred the meat using two forks while it's still in the slow cooker.
  9. Stir the shredded meat into the sauce and continue cooking, uncovered, for an additional 20-30 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken slightly.
