Ingredients

  • 1 3 pound boneless pork shoulder (Boston Butt) roast
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups of your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce optional
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar optional
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder optional

Method

  1. Place the pork shoulder in your slow cooker. Pour the apple cider vinegar over the pork, making sure to coat all sides.
  2. Season the meat generously with salt and pepper. If using, sprinkle with garlic powder and onion powder.
  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours or on HIGH for 4-5 hours. The pork is done when it easily shreds with a fork.
  4. Once the pork is tender, carefully remove it from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Pour out all but about 1/4 cup of the liquid from the slow cooker.
  5. Using two forks, shred the pork, removing any large pieces of fat.
  6. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker. Add BBQ sauce, Worcestershire sauce (if using), and brown sugar (if using). Stir to combine.
  7. Cover and cook on LOW for an additional 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
  8. Serve warm on buns for sandwiches, in tacos, or over rice.
