Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds chicken drumsticks about 6-8 drumsticks
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce divided
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional, for extra sweetness
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar optional, for tanginess

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with paper towels.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Drizzle the olive oil over the drumsticks and rub to coat evenly. Then sprinkle the seasoning mixture all over the drumsticks.
  5. Place the seasoned drumsticks on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each piece.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  7. Mix ¾ cup of barbecue sauce with honey and apple cider vinegar in a small bowl if desired.
  8. After the initial 25 minutes of baking, remove the drumsticks from the oven and generously coat each with barbecue sauce.
  9. Return the drumsticks to the oven and bake for an additional 7-10 minutes.
  10. Apply a second layer of barbecue sauce and bake for a final 5-7 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  11. For an extra-glazed finish, brush one more layer of barbecue sauce on the drumsticks after removing them from the oven.
  12. Let the drumsticks rest for 5 minutes before serving.
