Ingredients

  • 4 bone-in skin-on chicken breasts
  • 1 cup of your favorite BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for heat

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking dish with aluminum foil for easier cleanup.
  2. In a small bowl, combine olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne (if using).
  3. Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels. This helps the seasoning stick and promotes better browning.
  4. Rub the spice mixture all over the chicken breasts, including under the skin for maximum flavor.
  5. Place the chicken breasts skin-side up in the prepared baking dish, leaving space between each piece.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes to start cooking the chicken through.
  7. While the chicken is baking, mix your BBQ sauce with the brown sugar in a small bowl.
  8. After the initial 25 minutes, remove the chicken from the oven and generously brush with the BBQ sauce mixture.
  9. Return to the oven and bake for another 15 minutes.
  10. Brush with more BBQ sauce and continue baking for 5-10 more minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the sauce has caramelized.
  11. Allow the chicken to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving to retain juices.
