Method
- Trim excess fat from the chuck roast. While some fat adds flavor, removing larger pieces will result in a less greasy final dish.
- In a small bowl, combine the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Rub this seasoning mixture all over the roast, ensuring every side is well coated.
- Place the seasoned chuck roast in the bottom of your slow cooker.
- Pour the barbecue sauce over the meat. If using, add the Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar at this time.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 7-8 hours or on HIGH for 4-5 hours, until the beef is extremely tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.
- About 30 minutes before serving, use two forks to shred the beef directly in the slow cooker. Mix well with the sauce and continue cooking uncovered for 20-30 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken and the flavors to meld.
- Serve hot on sandwich buns or alongside your favorite sides.
