Ingredients
  

  • 2 pounds thinly sliced deli ham chipped chopped ham if available
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 8 hamburger buns
  • Pickle slices for serving optional
  • Coleslaw for serving optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 275°F (135°C).
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, and onion powder to the melted butter. Stir to combine thoroughly.
  4. Bring the sauce mixture to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low.
  5. Add the thinly sliced ham to the sauce, gently folding it in to ensure all pieces are coated evenly.
  6. Allow the ham to simmer in the sauce for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  7. Transfer the ham and sauce mixture to a baking dish.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  9. While the ham is baking, lightly toast your hamburger buns if desired.
  10. Spoon the hot ham mixture onto the bottom halves of the hamburger buns, add pickle slices or coleslaw if using, then top with the other half of the bun.
