- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon until no longer pink, about 7-8 minutes. Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Add the diced onion to the beef and cook until translucent, about 3 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
- In a large saucepan, whisk together ketchup, water, white sugar, brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Bring the sauce mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat, then reduce heat to medium-low.
- Add the cooked ground beef mixture to the sauce and stir to combine thoroughly.
- Allow the BBQ beef to simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened and flavors have melded together.
- Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
- Serve hot on hamburger buns for sandwiches or as desired.
