Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef preferably 80/20 for juiciness
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for heat

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, diced onion, beaten eggs, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and oregano. Mix gently with your hands until just combined (overmixing will make tough meatballs).
  3. Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop for consistency, portion the meat mixture and roll into 1-inch balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a small gap between each.
  4. Bake the meatballs for 15 minutes, or until they're cooked through but not browned.
  5. While the meatballs are baking, combine all sauce ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently for about 5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  6. Remove meatballs from the oven and drain any excess fat. Transfer the meatballs to a large baking dish and pour the BBQ sauce over them, turning gently to coat each meatball thoroughly.
  7. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, occasionally spooning sauce over the meatballs, until the sauce is thick and glazed.
  8. Allow meatballs to rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if desired.
