Ingredients
Method
- In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, honey, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, smoked paprika, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
- Stir the mixture well and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.
- Taste and adjust seasonings, adding salt and black pepper as needed.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly before using. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat and lightly oil the grate.
- Season chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
- Brush chicken lightly with olive oil to prevent sticking.
- Place chicken on the preheated grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes per side.
- Once chicken is almost cooked through, begin brushing with your homemade BBQ sauce.
- Continue grilling, turning and basting with sauce every 2-3 minutes until chicken is fully cooked (internal temperature of 165°F) and the sauce has caramelized, about 10 more minutes.
- Remove from grill and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve with additional warm BBQ sauce on the side.
