Let’s Test Out Costco’s Whole Pre-Cooked Brisket!

Hey guys, welcome to Mad Scientist BBQ! I’m Jeremy Yoder. The other day, I was at Costco and came across a pre-cooked smoked and seasoned brisket for $110. I wanted to see if it was worth it, so I decided to compare it to a brisket I cooked at home.

The pre-cooked brisket from Costco comes vacuum-sealed, pre-trimmed, pre-seasoned, and pre-smoked. At first, I was hesitant about it, but decided to give it a fair try. I also bought two cheap USDA Choice briskets from Costco for comparison.

There were two sets of instructions – cooking in the plastic at 180°F or unwrapped at 300°F. I chose to cook it unwrapped for a better bark.

After cooking, I sliced the pre-cooked brisket and found it to be dry, lacking seasoning, and not very tender. The reheat of my homemade brisket turned out much better in comparison, with a good bark, tenderness, and flavor.

In conclusion, the Costco pre-cooked brisket didn’t meet my expectations and I wouldn’t purchase it again. It’s a good experience if you want to boost your confidence in backyard BBQ, but for flavor and quality, I’d stick to cooking at home.

I rated the Costco brisket a 4.2 out of 10 and my homemade reheat brisket an 8.1. Give it a try yourself and let me know your thoughts.
